The Doctor Is In: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Kevin McKidd Could Be Your Landlord
You probably know actor Kevin McKidd as impassioned trauma surgeon Dr. Owen Hunt on “Grey’s Anatomy.” If you’re an HBO fan, you’ll know him as military leader Lucious Vorenus in “Rome.” Now, anyone who can pony up $7,900 rent per month will know him as “My Landlord,” as he’s attempting to rent out his private and stylish home in the Hollywood Hills.
Just last year, McKidd, a native of Scotland and resident of Los Angeles, became a U.S. citizen, along with his wife, Jane, and their children, Joseph, 16, and Iona, 14. Then in July, the couple announced they were parting ways but would actively co-parent. Now the family home us up for rent.
The place isn’t large, but it certainly is lovely—you won’t be mistaking it for the woodsy trailer McKidd’s character crashed in circa Season 10. Measuring 1,600 square feet with three bedrooms, two baths, and a guesthouse/artist studio/office, the California home is located in the hills, between legendary Laurel Canyon and even more legendary Mulholland Drive.
Surrounded by walls and protected by a gate, it is indeed secluded and private—perfect for that guilty pleasure/binge session of “Grey’s Anatomy” we already know you’re planning.
The “French/Tuscan with a modern edge” home has a cozy chef’s kitchen with custom cabinetry and Sub-Zero and Viking appliances. It opens to a large living and dining area with a wood-burning fireplace and a wall of French doors. The house also features a master suite with a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a large soaking tub and a separate shower. With all these upgrades, you know it’s a home that won’t need surgery. (Yep, we went there.)
But it’s the gardens that really set the home apart. Visible from almost every room, the gardens feature ornamental trees, bushes, flowers, and lawns, all accessible by gravel walking paths, A kidney-shaped pool is situated below a terraced seating area with a fire pit. It definitely epitomizes southern California living in the area, a far cry from what McKidd grew up with in Scotland.
In addition to his TV work, McKidd has been on the big screen as well. His breakout role was Tommy in Danny Boyle‘s “Trainspotting” in 1996. Since then, you’ve seen him in films such as “Kingdom of Heaven” and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” and heard him in the Disney animated feature “Brave.”
In addition, he’s a seasoned director, having helmed a number of “Grey’s Anatomy” episodes. We’ll see how well his director skills transition to overseeing the lease of his home.
