The Sequel? ‘Silence of the Lambs’ Home Is This Week’s Most Popular Again

This week’s most popular home on realtor.com® is back for a return engagement. The “Silence of the Lambs” home first topped our list when it hit the market back in August 2015. Nine months later, it’s back on top. It places the lotion in the basket! Again.

General rule of the movies? Sequels stink. Yes, we know “The Godfather: Part II” is a masterpiece, but for every Michael Corleone, we wind up saddled with the likes of “Red Dragon”—or worse, “Hannibal Rising.”

If you don’t remember those lousy “Silence” sequels and prequels, it’s OK. The reappearance of the Pennsylvania home that served as the home of Jame Gumb in “Silence” is the sort of sequel we fully endorse.

The opportunity to score this iconic home must be seized by some brave buyer. Yes, we know it’s tucked away in a semi-rural area of the state, but we’re hoping its resurgent popularity means an offer is in the offing.

Second place on our list was also filled by a familiar face—a $39M Connecticut castle searching for a buyer with a royal bankroll. Other than that, you clicked on a couple of homes with private ponds, a ’50s time capsule in Illinois, and the most expensive home in California.

Why it’s here: This handsome Craftsman from 1911 has a wrap-around porch that looks like a perfect spot to sip lemonade. Plus, the four-bedroom beauty is being offered at only $83 per square foot!

Price: $999,999
Why it’s here: Listed for a skinny buck under one million, this Plantation-style home just underwent a $70,000 price cut. We’re most fascinated by the indoor playroom, complete with its own slide.

Price: $150,000,000
Why it’s here: Currently the most expensive home in the Golden State, it has its own spa level, featuring an indoor water wall.

Why it’s here: You gotta love a time capsule. Built in 1959, the interiors look almost untouched. The thick brownish shag carpeting, the wood paneling, the wall-mounted rotary phone—all the elements of this ultra-affordable home hark back to an earlier era.

Why it’s here: On the market since August 2015, this 47-acre estate just leaped into our top 10, and we’re not sure why. Perhaps it’s because homes with their own airplane hangars are few and far between?

Price: $292,500
Why it’s here: This cute cottage near Mobile Bay just chopped $7,500 off its asking price. Sitting on 1.5 acres of land, it has its very own pond out back.

Price: $669,000
Why it’s here: Only six years old, this custom-built Craftsman features an in-law suite, custom fixtures, and “hidden spice racks.” Also featuring its own pond, this spread on 5 acres is marketed as an “outdoor paradise.”

Price: $72,800
Why it’s here: Known as the Richard L. Cawood Residence, this historic structure captured the attention of property watchers when it hit the market for less than $75K. Judging by what listing agent Marie Houston told us this week, competing all-cash offers are the next chapter in the saga of this run-down relic.
