While the larger-than-life statue of Spider-Man is gone, the cozy writing nook in the former West Hollywood, CA, home of Marvel Comics’ founder Stan Lee remains.

The $5 million house has reappeared on the market, and it’s been reanimated with all the best and brightest finishes. However, Lee’s writing nook, where he spent time imagining the exploits of some of the world’s most famous superheroes, remains.

The nook still inspires creativity, according to Jacob Greene of Douglas Elliman, who is co-listing the property with Josh and Matthew Altman of “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles” fame.

“My clients bought the house and did an amazing job of remodeling, while respecting the creative spirit of Stan Lee,” explains Greene. “They originally intended to keep the home in the family and make it a residence for their mother-in-law, so they remodeled it using all the finest quality finishes. But when they were done, they realized that at almost 5,000 square feet, it was just too big for her and was more ideal for a family, so they decided to put it on the market.”

The price isn’t outrageous, considering Calvin Klein paid $25 million for a 9,300-square-foot home just down the street. Also, former neighbor Meryl Streep was asking $6.75 million for her 3,700-square-foot home, which was purchased by Alex Rodriguez at a slightly lower sum.

The 4,963-square-foot home, built in 1939, features five bedrooms and seven baths. The large master suite has a fireplace, his-and-her marble master baths, and his-and-her walk-in closets, in addition to spectacular hilltop and city views. There’s also a brand-new chef’s kitchen inside and a kitchen with built-in barbecue outside, next to the pool.

“It’s now that rare combination of sexy Hollywood Hills home and great family residence,” says Greene. “There’s a formal wing for entertaining, and a warm and friendly family wing.”

Greene says the owners were careful to give it a cool and modern vibe, while maintaining the home’s Hollywood history. Leaving Lee’s cozy writing nook, desk, shelves, and all was part of that plan. They even left the basement, accessible by a trap door, intact—an unusual feature for a California home.

“Who knows what types of classic relics were stored down there?” wonders Greene. Could it have been stacks and stacks of first-edition Marvel comics? Our Spidey senses are tingling!
