A mammoth pair of real estate developments in Indonesia will soon bear the Donald Trump brand.

Construction will start in 2017 for two luxury projects by Indonesian investment firm MNC Group that will be managed by The Trump Organization, the global conglomerate of the Republican nominee for the US presidency.

MNC will be transforming 3,000 hectares of land by the Lido Lakes in Java Island into a six-star resort and residential complex under The Trump Hotels Collection, to be followed by a theme park. The first, 700-hectare phase of the project will come with an 18-hole Ernie Els championship golf course, in addition to hotels, luxury villas, and condominiums.

MNC is also building a toll road between the cities of Bogor and Sukabumi to widen tourist access to the Lido resort, located 65 kilometres south of Jakarta.

This is not Trump’s first foray in eastern Asia. In Bali, Trump’s hotel portfolio will also add Nirwana Resort, MNC’s 108-hectare integrated lifestyle community that will command views of the Tanah Lot temple.

In Eurasia, Trump has licenced his brand to a hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan.

MNC signed an agreement for the Lido development with The Trump Organization in August 2015. The Lido estate had belonged to Aburizal Bakrie, one of Indonesia’s richest politicians, and was sold by Charlton Group Holdings Ltd to MNC for IDR1.4 trillion (USD98 million) in 2013.

Last year, an appearance by lawmakers Setya Novanto and Fadli Zon in a campaign event with Trump set off an ethics probe in the Indonesian parliament. The meeting was allegedly facilitated by MNC chief executive Hary Tanoesoedibjo.

Trump has sparked outrage in Indonesia this year for incendiary comments against Muslims trying to enter the US. Indonesia is home to 12.7 percent of the world’s Muslims.
