This Week’s Most Popular Home Is an Infamous Los Angeles Legend
When it comes to the most popular homes on realtor.com®, there are a few driving forces. Sometimes, it’s savvy marketing on the part of an agent. Sometimes, it’s the over-the-top opulence. In other cases, it’s a celebrity owner fueling clicks. However, what really sets homes apart in terms of clicks is infamy. Remember the “Silence of the Lambs” house?
This week, we see a prime example of an infamous home captivating curious onlookers. Located in Los Angeles, the Spanish-style house was the site of a gruesome murder-suicide over five decades ago. Sold the following year, the home in the Los Feliz neighborhood has remained eerily vacant ever since.
Now it’s returned to the market, and prying peeps are angling for a glimpse of a home that’s been vacant since 1959. The pictures show a home in need of serious TLC, but we’re curious to see if the home will be razed or renovated.
Outside of eerie L.A., you were interested in an enormous ranch with Wagyu beef possibilities in Central Florida, three different homes in Ohio, and, of course, a log cabin—this time, in rural Pennsylvania.
10. 20712 Kelsey Ln, Strongsville, OH
Price: $475,000
Why it’s here: Listing agent Sylvia Incorvaia told us this handsome four-bedroom home is in the desirable Waterford Crossing development, and buyers love the area for its location. She also added that area inventory is low and buyers are acting fast if they spot an opportunity to move up into a larger, nicer home.

9. 3685 Heathmoor Dr, Elgin, IL
Price: $659,000
Why it’s here: Only 8 years old, this Craftsman-style home offers a classic vibe with new conveniences. Plus, the wraparound porch out front looks like a perfect place to survey the local landscape.

8. 450 Brickyard Rd, Woodstock, CT
Price: $39,000,000
Why it’s here: Interest remains strong in this fabled Connecticut castle. When the interest translates into a buyer in shining armor, we’ll let you know.

7. 3060 Wildflower Dr, Dallas, TX
Price: $170,000
Why it’s here: This modest three-bedroom home has already received multiple offers. With the home costing only $121 per square foot and having a pool out back, we can see why.

6. 8615 W US Route 36, Newberry Township, OH
Price: $93,000
Why it’s here: This week’s bargain pick has a 3,200-square-foot main house and a 900-square-foot cottage for less than $100,000. The resulting math leaves a property that’s only $24 per square foot. It’s a big bargain—we didn’t even mention the 5 acres of land and horse riding arena.

5. 131 E Whittier St, Columbus, OH
Price: $325,000
Why it’s here: Expertly staged, this classic brick home in Columbus has just the right blend of modern and classic. The interiors have been updated, while keeping the home’s vintage charm fully intact.

4. 5 Turner Ln, Loudonville, NY
Price: $359,900
Why it’s here: Under contract after just over a week on the market, this renovated three-bedroom ranch was a perfect match for an eager buyer.

3. 8965 Route 208, Knox, PA
Price: $334,900
Why it’s here: It wouldn’t be a list of most popular homes without a log home. This “gorgeous” version has generated an enormous amount of interest, according to listing agent Michael Wise. He thinks the popularity stems from the home’s log origins, plus the fact that these rustic homes are relatively scarce in this rural corner of Pennsylvania.

2. 3855 State Road 206 W, Hastings, FL
Price: $16,200,000
Why it’s here: Right now, it’s all about the beef. This 1,700-acre parcel (plus an 11,666-square-foot manor home) is ready for a buyer who wants to let cattle roam. Jim Davidson of Davidson Realty says the property has a number of potential uses—e.g., for agricultural, equestrian, and corporate events and more—but a purchase comes down to “defining the needs of the buyer.” At present, he’s heard from a couple of buyers who want to use the property as a ranch to produce high-end Wagyu beef.

1. 2475 Glendower Pl, Los Angeles, CA
Price: $2,750,000
Why it’s here: Perched on the hills over Los Angeles, this Spanish-style home has a horrifying back story. The site of an infamous murder-suicide in 1959, the home has remained vacant ever since, according to a fascinating article in the Los Angeles Times. Purchased a year after the murders (but never occupied), this is the Los Feliz home’s first appearance on the market in over 50 years. For those with a macabre mindset, we recommend checking out these photos of the home before it was cleaned out.
