Tom Brokaw Taking Off? Former News Anchor Selling His Country Estate for .3M
This just in: Longtime journalist Tom Brokaw has placed his vacation getaway in Pound Ridge, NY, on the market for $6.3 million.
The former “NBC Nightly News” anchor and his wife, Meredith Auld, bought the 56-acre property in 1998 for around $4.25 million, according to the Real Deal.
Billed as the “the Brokaws’ family retreat for nearly 20 years,” the country estate is at the edge of a “pristine and private, five-acre lake,” according to the listing. The location is about an hour north of Manhattan, where the couple live.
Built in 1996, the European-style home features a stucco and shingle exterior, wide-plank pine flooring, Venetian plaster walls, exposed beams, and walls of glass. It has four beds and 5.5 baths, and measures 4,068 square feet.
The great room features a vaulted ceiling, stone fireplace, and doors to a screened porch that overlooks the water. There’s also an alcove with built-in shelves for books, and a first-floor master suite with a terrace and hot tub. Outside there’s a pool, a pool house with game room, and a guesthouse.
The acreage right now boasts grassy lawns and trees, with hiking trails and a lake for boating and swimming. Should the next owner want to expand and build a family compound, two more building lots have already been approved.
Best known as the anchor of “NBC Nightly News” for 22 years, the journalism legend has come under fire of late, facing accusations of unwanted sexual advances, which Brokaw denies.
Mary Dowdle of Ginnel Real Estate holds the listing.
