Ugly no more – Philippine town gets a colourful makeover
First look at this mountainside that’s been painted the rainbow
A depressed area in a mountainous Philippine province is now in the last stages of a painting project likened to the colourful ‘favelas’ of Brazil.
Three hillside communities in the high-altitude town of La Trinidad are now awash with the brilliant colours of a mural spread over 170 houses. Featuring the design of Tam-awan Village Artists and sponsored by a popular paint brand, the project is on track for completion by the end of June.

For several weeks now, residents, with the help of volunteers mostly from the nearby Baguio City, have been painting their dwellings’ facades to look like giant flowers from the highway below.
The communities, namely Stonehill, Sadjao, and Botiwtiw, form an entrance to the mountain town, according to Marie Venus Tan, regional director of the Department of Tourism, who initiated the project late last year.
